What is it?
ADSL stands for Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line and simply means your broadband connection is made possible through your phone line with different transmission speeds for your downloads & uploads, i.e. data received and data sent.

What are the benefits of ADSL broadband?
Although ADSL broadband uses your phone line to access the internet it doesn’t tie up the line, so you can still use your phone and/
or fax while you’re online. ADSL broadband has a range of speeds available; starting at a minimum five times faster than dial-up
and ranging to over 140 times faster!
There are no ‘dial-up’ call costs with ADSL; you are always connected, so you can be online whenever your computer is on without needing to worry about missing important phone calls.
Over 85% of phone lines support ADSL so ask our representatives now to find out if you can receive this service.

Fixed vs Wireless connection
Your ADSL service can be used by either a wireless or fixed connection at your premises.

Fixed connection:
This is generally used by people who have either a PC or laptop and don’t mind the computer being connected via a cable to their modem and phone line. You can upgrade to a 4 port modem which will allow multiple computers to connect via this way.

Wireless connection:
The advantages of using a Wireless 4 port modem is you can not only connect more than one computer at the same time, but they do not need to be cabled to the modem, allowing you to have a home office computer in the study whilst your teenager can be studying on their computer in the bedroom.

(Note: to use the Wireless connection your PC and/or laptop must be fitted with a Wireless card/adaptor, such as Linksys WMP54G or WCP54G. These can be purchased from McMedia if your computer does
not already have this facility.
