Maroochy Shire Council Public Gardens - Buderim Forest Park
Maroochy Shire is situated near the centre of the eastern
coast of Australia - about one hundred kilometres north
of Brisbane, and has a population of around 112,000 that
is growing rapidly.
The Shire encompasses 115,947 hectares consisting of mountainous
highlands in the west, and rolling hills, floodplains and
coastal lowlands to the east. The Council manages 4,445
hectares of district bushland and has recently introduced
a Vegetation
Conservation Levy that currently raises about $1 million
per year for the purchase of additional environmentally
significant land. Council is developing bushland management
plans to conserve and improve the natural value of bushland
parks.
Buderim Forest Park has been identified as a Bushland
Park of Regional Significance and one of the Premier Bushland
parks in Maroochy Shire. Due to its large size (32 ha),
being in a much desired area, high biodiversity, high number
of significant plants and vegetation communities and ecological
niches, it is an important contribution to the conservation
of the natural values of Maroochy Shire. It's natural beauty
and high value ensures a high level of community interest
and visitation.

Buderim Forest Park provides a range of ecological services
and passive recreation activities. A rainforested walking
track follows the cascading creek down the mountain to extensive
picnic areas at the base of the park. Adjacent to the park
is a garden dedicated to Edna Walling, a garden designer who
retired to Buderim. This area is very popular with garden
clubs and order people.
